| The remnants of hurricane Hanna could not stop 106 hearty souls from completing the Library 5K course on September 6th. Predictions of a total washout failed to materialize and runners, walkers and sponsors combined to make the event another successful fundraiser. Total prizes and sponsorship donations were over $5,000 and the end result to the library fund will be in excess of $3,200. Holden resident Tim Wright won the overall race in a time of 17:06 while Oakham runner Mary Haynes won the women’s division in a time of 21:54. Marty Ellowitz doubled as first CMS runner and first Senior in a time of 19:04 First male walker was David Kymalainen of Gardner in a time of 34:56 while Laura Foley of Hubbardston took first female walker honors with a respectable 39:22. Race Director Mark Wigler thanked the runners, sponsors, volunteers, library trustees, Friends of the Library and town employees for assisting in this critical fundraiser for the Town Library. Planning will be soon underway for the 12th Annual Race and runners were asked to bring a friend to next year’s event. |
